Gerardo Viedma

I am a student from Madrid, Spain, presently studying at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. My work at Asahi Kasei involved training acoustic models for building speech recognition systems in the Spanish language.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff at Asahi Kasei for their marvelous treatment. It is only thanks to you all that I have been able to learn many new things, not only at a professional level but, more importantly, at a human level.

Even though my expectations for Japan were already quite high, my experience was beyond anything I could have ever conceived. I am very glad to have experienced all those additional things that make this such a special place. I will always be indebted to the Japanese for their warmth and their efforts to make me feel at home. It is my most earnest hope that someday I may become as good an ambassador for Spain as my colleagues at Asahi Kasei were for Japan. Thank you!

Asahi Kasei is a big warm group which I enjoy being a part of. Working and communicating with my colleagues here is a pleasure. I think my experience in Asahi Kasei and in Japan will be a very precious memory I will treasure for life.

I will stay here for one year to work on a Spanish speech recognition system. During my first four months everything has been so nice: from the people I have met at work to the food that is served in the cafeteria!

All the people here are helping me so much in so many ways, it seems like Atsugi is turning into a place I can call home. I really hope that during the time I am here, I can return but a fraction of the kindness I am receiving.
