Nikkiso Co., Ltd. (Nikkiso) and Asahi
Medical Co., Ltd. (Asahi Medical) have concluded an
agreement for the formation of a mutual alliance of
equals which will draw on their respective strengths
and contribute to further advances in products, technologies,
and services for hemodialysis treatment.
Nikkiso and Asahi Medical, as Japans leading suppliers
of hemodialysis machines and hemodialyzers, respectively,
have both played a major role in the establishment and
continuing advancement of hemodialysis treatment. Their
mutual alliance will bring further advances in therapeutic
technologies and services that meet the constantly heightening
patient and hospital requirements.
- Background and Objectives of the
Mutual Alliance
- With the lengthening life span and
the increasing accessibility of medical diagnosis
and treatment around the world, the market need for
hemodialysis products and services is rapidly expanding,
even as the competition among the suppliers to this
market is markedly intensifying. At the same time,
the advances of recent years in hemodialysis treatment
have in turn led to a new emphasis on further improving
the quality of life for hemodialysis patients, and
to the requirement for the development and provision
of new equipment, dialyzers, and systems for this
purpose.
The mutual alliance will draw on the respective strengths
of Nikkiso, as Japans leading hemodialysis equipment
supplier, and Asahi Medical, as its leading hemodialyzer
supplier, to meet these market trends and heightening
therapeutic requirements and enhance the provision
of an effective response on a global scale, and to
increase the competitive strength and position of
both companies.
- Under this alliance the companies
will commence mutual OEM product supply, by the end
of this year.
- Nikkiso will supply hemodialysis
equipment to Asahi Medical. Asahi Medical will
gradually phase out its own equipment manufacturing
operations.
- Asahi Medical will supply hemodialyzers
to Nikkiso. Nikkiso will continue to manufacture
its own PEPA-membrane hemodialyzers but gradually
phase out its other hemodialyzer manufacturing
operations.
- The alliance will solidify and heighten
the position of both Nikkiso and Asahi Medical among
the worlds top-ranking hemodialysis equipment and
hemodialyzer suppliers.
- In the course of the establishment
and growth of this alliance, Nikkiso and Asahi Medical
will consider its further strengthening and extension
in the full range of hemodialysis-related products
and provision of services to hospitals, including
the relevant sales and marketing activities, of a
scope in conformity with the guidance of the related
governmental authorities.
