Asahi Kasei began purchasing electric power produced from renewable energy (green power) in April 2022 at the plant for manufacturing engineering plastic compounds by its subsidiary Asahi Kasei Color Tech Co., Ltd. in Japan. Engineering plastic compounds are used as material to make parts for automobiles and electronic products. Furthermore, the decision was made to advance the purchase of green power for use at the engineering plastic compound plants in Thailand and the U.S.
In order to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, the Asahi Kasei Group is reducing its own GHG emissions as well as contributing to reduced GHG emissions in society. By 2030, Asahi Kasei targets a reduction of its own GHG emissions by 30% or more compared to fiscal 2013.
In Asahi Kasei's Mobility & Industrial Strategic Business Unit, each division is working to reduce GHG emissions toward the target. The start of purachase of green power by Asahi Kasei Color Tech in Japan is part of this effort, along with the decision to advance the purchase of green power at engineering plastic compound plants in Thailand and the U.S. Furthermore, studies are advancing for the purchase of green power at Asahi Kasei's engineering plastic compound plant in China. Moving forward, Asahi Kasei aims to achieve 100% green power usage at engineering plastic compound plants worldwide, including the installation of solar power generation systems.
- Asahi Kasei Plastics (Thailand) has concluded an agreement to purchase green power equivalent to its annual amount of power use, and the rate of its green power use is to be finalized in December 2022. A certificate indicating its use of green power from April 2022 is scheduled to be issued in March 2023.
