Asahi Kasei Engineering Corp. (AEC) and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) have completed the joint development of the V-MO (Vessel Vibration Visualization Monitor) service for monitoring the condition of motors on ships. The service will be available to various shipping companies and ship management companies worldwide from May 24, 2023, through Fuji Trading Co., Ltd. as the sales representative. AEC expects this service to contribute to enhanced safety and reliability of oceangoing vessel operation.
V-MO is a cloud-based service that continuously monitors the motors on a ship by analyzing data from attached vibration sensors to detect abnormalities and to diagnose the causes if necessary. Expertise of Asahi Kasei's Digital Value Co-Creation is used for the data analysis. As the measured data is sent to the cloud, conditions of motors can be monitored from both offshore and onshore.
The joint development project began in 2017¹ and a trial aimed at commercialization started in 2020² which was completed in fiscal 2022. MOL intends to install V-MO on multiple vessels in service while studying linkage with its FOCUS (Fleet Optimal Control Unified System) project³.
