Innovation Endorsement1 is ClassNK’s initiative to certify innovative technologies and solutions in maritime and offshore industries, covering three categories of Ships, Products & Solutions, and Providers. The certification obtained by Asahi Kasei Engineering in the Products & Solutions category was given in recognition of features of V-MO such as technology for condition monitoring optimized for marine motors and an algorithm allowing proper monitoring even in the vibrating environment characteristic of ships.
This recognition allows ClassNK-registered vessels equipped with V-MO to apply the notations2 of Digital Smart Ship3 with “Machinery Monitoring,” “Connected Ship,” and “Shore Monitoring,” indicating ships with advanced digital technology.
Asahi Kasei Engineering will help contribute to the safe and secure operation of vessels around the world by promoting maritime digital transformation.
About V-MO
By automatically collecting and analyzing data from vibration sensors installed in a ship's motors, V-MO is designed to provide continuous condition monitoring and to identify irregularities without the need for specialized knowledge. If V-MO detects a possible malfunction, repairs and parts can be arranged before the ship arrives at port, enabling planned maintenance. Also, by carrying out inspections and repairs based on signs of malfunction, the scope of repairs can be limited, reducing maintenance costs. The measured data is sent to the cloud, and the condition of the motors is monitored from onshore by vibration diagnostic qualified personnel.
