100 Stories2006 Open Office Day

The Open Office Day, a workplace tour in the Tokyo area, was first held at the Hibiya Mitsui Building in 2006 and has continued to be held after the company moved to Jimbocho Mitsui Building in 2008 and Hibiya Mitsui Tower in 2019.

It was held in the first place to acquire the Kurumin mark* certification under the Act on Advancement of Measures to Support Raising Next-Generation Children by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) as a company that promotes balance between work and raising children. It aimed at carrying out activities that contributed to employees, their families, and society, which was one of the conditions for acquiring this certification.

Workplace tours and open days used to be held in some districts and plants in the industrial districts in Nobeoka, Kawasaki, Mizushima, Fuji, and Ohito, but the Open Office Day was new because it was established as a regular summer event across the entire group in the office districts.

The content consists of two events: a workplace tour and an interactive learning program held by each division. The expertise gained from visiting classes held at schools and inside of Asahi Kasei’s plants was utilized during the Open Office Day in the interactive learning program and the experiment corner held by employees to help elementary, middle, and high school students gain more interest and understand more.

The workplace tour was not only about going around offices but also various places in the office building, such as meeting rooms and mail centers. It also included visiting the secretarial office and having a conversation with the chairman and the president. It is a day where the employees’ families can visit and engage, and for children to see how their parents actually work for an entire day.

The Open Office Day is an event for carrying out Asahi Kasei’s important social contribution activities under the theme of education of the next generation. Work-life balance initiatives continue to take place across the group.

*Companies and corporate bodies that meet specific criteria to address the declining birthrate, such as providing support for raising children, are certified by the MHLW and can add this certification mark to their advertisements and products.
