Certain media have published reports concerning the supply of Asahi Kasei’s product Pimel™ photosensitive insulator (photosensitive polyimide, PSPI) and its effect on supply chains. Asahi Kasei’s view on the matter is as described below.

1. Pimel™ demand

With rapid technological innovation in the field of AI, demand for Pimel™ for use as semiconductor buffer coat and interlayer dielectric is increasing far more quickly than initially expected. This demand increase is an effect of rising interest in advanced semiconductor packaging technology throughout the industry, and Asahi Kasei recognizes its importance.

2. Pimel™ supply

Certain media reports have implied that supply has been interrupted due to manufacturing issues or quality problems. This is absolutely not the case, and stable operation is continuing. At the present time, we are having ongoing discussions with individual customers, and advancing adjustments for stable supply.

In response to expanding demand, a new plant in Shizuoka began operation in December 2024, and production volumes are being expanded in stages. Studies have begun regarding expansion of manufacturing capacity and reinforcement of the supply configuration to meet further demand over the medium to long term.

Moving forward, Asahi Kasei will do all that it can to maintain stable supply of high quality products for the semiconductor industry, and contribute to the competitiveness of partner companies.
